Police, APF in semis with one match to spare

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Departmental teams Nepal APF Sports Club and Nepal Police Club have entered the semifinals of Bagmati Province New Diamond Cup Open Women’s National Volleyball Championship on Wednesday after registering second straight victory in their respective matches. During the matches held at Kirtipur-based Multipurpose Covered Hall on Wednesday, APF defeated the hosts New Diamond while Police saw off Paropakar Adarsha Secondary School in straight sets. Both the winners made it to the semifinal with one match to spare. Now, these two teams (APF and Police) will vie for the top position in the round-robin league. Shahi got an opportunity to train in the European country at the invitation of the Netherlands Volleyball Association. Nepal Volleyball Association’s central member Raj Kumar Gurung, Western Regional Volleyball Association’s Hari Shrestha and New Diamond Sports Club’s captain Lalita Nath bade farewell to Shahi amid a recent programme. Although Nepal Volleyball Association did not announce any formal programme to mark this day, Jawlakhel Volleyball Training Centre organized friendly games and various programmes to observe the National Volleyball Day. This is the first time that the two players who also represent Nepal Police Club in domestic tournament of Nepal will be playing in a foreign league. Mali will not be able to play any matches for the next three months as her old injury relapsed again. Her coach Kumar Rai confirmed that Mali will have to rest due to her injury. The NVA Club League is slated to be held from May 1 to 7 at the covered hall of the National Sports Council.
