Kathmandu – Nepali volleyball players made winning start to the Maldives Volleyball Association Cup 2022 with their respective clubs winning their opening matches on Thursday.
Maldives Service Club (Police), which has signed Nepal’s Kamana Bista, defeated Club Eagle straight sets to open their account on Thursday night. The Police club won the first set 25-19 followed by 25-21 win in the second set and a 25-20 win in the third.
Earlier on Thursday, Dhivehi Sifainge Club featuring another Nepali player Usha Bhandari also won their respective match in straight sets.
Kamana and Usha play professional football in the domestic league of Nepal representing Nepal Police Club. This is the first time that the two players are playing the game abroad.
Usha and Kamana got an opportunity to play in the Maldives at the initiative of former national volleyball player Kopila Upreti, who is currently the assistant coach of Nepal Police Club. Upreti has featured in the Maldivian league for 7 times between 2015 and 2017.
Other Nepali players who have already played in the Maldivian league include Manju Gurung, Kopila Upreti, Neema Shrestha, Pratibha Mali, Saraswati Chaudhary and Aruna Shahi.
