Pratibha Mali to miss NVA league, national games

Kathmandu – Pratibha Mali, an open spiker of national women’s volleyball team, will miss the upcoming RBB NVA National League due to a nagging knee injury.

Mali will not be able to play any matches for the next three months as her old injury relapsed again. Her coach Kumar Rai confirmed that Mali will have to rest due to her injury. The NVA Club League is slated to be held from May 1 to 7 at the covered hall of the National Sports Council.

Mali underwent an MRI scan after she felt excoriating pain during the Sagarmatha Cement PM Cup International Invitational Women’s Volleyball Championship held in Nepalgunj recently. After going through the MRI report, doctors have advised Mali not to get involved in any kind of sporting activities for at least three months.

Mali’s injury has added more problems to her beleaguered club – New Diamond Sports Club which will also miss another influential player Jharana Shrestha following her announcement to quit the game due to family issues. Mali will also miss the Ninth National Games to be held in Gandaki Province from June 3.

Nepal is gearing up for the upcoming Asian Games to be held in China from September 10 to 25. She is expected to be ready by that time.

National team’s Saraswati Chaudhary is also in rehab following a knee surgery.

Mali was injured during the RBB NVA Club Championship match against APF on January 24, 2020. She suffered injury to her left knee. It was revealed that she suffered from ACL injury of ligament as well as meniscus tear. She had to undergo a knee surgery and was out of competition for almost a year.

After her return from injury, she helped her team win several titles and had been performing exceptionally well until the recent setback.
