National Champion Santoo heading toward Australia to pursue his future

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Table Tennis National Champion Santoo Shrestha is set to fly towards Australia to pursue his future. All Nepal Table Tennis Association bade farewell to Shrestha during a program on Tuesday. President of the association Chaturananda Raj Baidya bade farewell to Santoo handing over a National flag at the table tennis-covered hall in Lainchour. Similarly, Senior Vice President of the Association and President of Kathmandu District Table Tennis Association Dharmaman Bajracharya, Chief Coach Sanjiv Kumar Dhungel, coaches, players, and others extended their best wishes during the farewell program. Santoo, a three-time national champion, has won 1 silver and 3 bronze medals in the South Asian Games.

Arahant and Krishna Victorious

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Arhant Keshar Singh and Krishna Thapa bagged the title of 4th Dhana Laxmi Memorial National Squash Tournament. Arahant was crowned champion of the men's open whereas Krishna won in the women's open. Both Arahant and Krishna were victorious in the Olympics Day National Squash tournament held last month. Arahant defeated Amrit Thapa Magar in the straight set of 11-4, 11-7, and 11-6 to bag the title. Amir Blon and Deepak Thapa came third jointly. Arahant has become the champion consecutively for the fourth time in the tournament. In the women's open, Krishna won the title defeating Bipana Blon in straight sets of 11-7, 11-7, and 11-7. By a Staff Reporter Arahant Keshar Singh and Amrit Thapa Magar made it through the finals of the 4th Dhana Laxmi Memorial National Squash tournament under the men's open category. Arahant and Amrit defeated Amir Blon and Dipak Thapa respectively in straight sets in the semifinal on Friday at Squash Court in Satdobato. In a non-competitive match, Arahant won by 11-5, 11-2, and 11-6 whereas Amrit won by 11-2, 11-4, and 11-6. By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Amir Blon and Deepak Thapa along with Arahant Keshar Singh and Amrit Thapa Magar have entered the semi-finals of the 4th Dhanalaxmi Memorial National Squash Tournament under men's open. Arahant booked his spot in the last four by winning twice at the squash court in Satdobato on Wednesday. Arahant defeated Avan Shrestha in straight sets of 3-0 in the pre-quarterfinals and easily defeated Gopal Thapa in the quarterfinals by 11-7, 11-5, and 11-9. In the other match, Amrit defeated Divya Bajracharya in straight sets by 11-4, 11-5, and 11-9. By a Staff Reporter The National Sports Council (NSC) awarded cash prizes to 13 players including Palesha Gowdardhan Shrestha of Para Taekwondo, Prince Dahal of Badminton and Aruna Shahi of Volleyball. On the occasion of President's Women's Sports Participation Enhancement Program, NSC awarded the players from three categories with cash on Monday. The supreme governing body handed over Rs 150,000 each to two players, Rs 100,000 each to four players and Rs 50,000 each to seven players. Agencies Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from his Wimbledon semi-final against Nick Kyrgios with an abdominal injury. According to the BBC, the 36-year-old Spanish second seed received treatment during his quarter-final against Taylor Fritz on Wednesday but pushed through the pain to win in five sets. Agencies Wimbledon organisers have been fined by the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) for banning Russian and Belarusian players from this summer's grass court events. The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has been fined 207,000 pounds and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) 620,000 pounds after stopping athletes compete at Wimbledon and in warm-up tournaments, the BBC reported. According to Reuters, Wimbledon organisers and Britain's tennis authorities said they have appealed against fines handed to them by the women's governing body, WTA, for excluding Russian and Belarussian players from this year's grasscourt events. By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The Team Tennis  Nepal JTI Junior Tennis Championship kicked off in the capital on Friday. A total of 110 players are competing in the event, said Ajay Bista, chairman of Team  Tennis Nepal – the organizer of the event. The championship features competition in 12 categories including 6 in boys’ category and 6 in girls’ category. According to the organisers, the estimated cost of organizing the five-day event is around Rs 250,000. The competitions will be held at the court of the organizer in Dhapakhel.
