Abhishek and Abhilasha clinch Citizens Bank Tennis title

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Abhishek Bastola and Abhilasha Bista have emerged as the champions of the 9th Citizens Bank Open Tennis Tournament in Kathmandu. The tournament's main category had separate events for men and women, where Abhishek and Abhilasha won their respective titles. Abhishek defeated Hrithik Rana in straight sets of 6-0 and 6-1 in the men's final held at the National Sports Council (NSC) tennis court in Tripureshwar on Monday. According to the BBC, the 36-year-old Spanish second seed received treatment during his quarter-final against Taylor Fritz on Wednesday but pushed through the pain to win in five sets. A total of 110 players are competing in the event, said Ajay Bista, chairman of Team  Tennis Nepal – the organizer of the event. The championship features competition in 12 categories including 6 in boys’ category and 6 in girls’ category. According to the organisers, the estimated cost of organizing the five-day event is around Rs 250,000. The competitions will be held at the court of the organizer in Dhapakhel.

Prasamsha Moktan wins silver in tennis championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepali tennis player Prasamsha Moktan has secured silver medal in Circuit-1 of the First Qatar Asian Junior U-19 Tennis Championship. Moktan clinched silver medal in both singles and doubles category under the championship held at Doha-based Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. According to Moktan’s father Sulabh, she lost the final against Alexandra of Russia 6-3, 6-1 in the singles category. In the doubles section, Moktan partnered with Safia Al Thani. She is the lone player representing Nepal in the championship.
