Palesha Wins Nepal’s First Ever Medal At Asian Para Games

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) - Taekwondo's Palesha Govardhan has become the first Nepali para-athlete in history to win a medal at the Asian Para Games. Palesha bagged a bronze medal in the Taekwondo K44 47 KG category in the ongoing Asian Para Games Hangzhou, China, to become the first Nepali ever to win a medal in the games' history. Palesha had entered the semifinals by defeating China's Yang Li Ting 14-1 in the first matchup. However, she was defeated by Kazaksthan's Kamilya Dosmalova 16-10 in the semifinals. But her medal was confirmed after she received a 'bye' in the repechage. China's Li Ting was defeated by China's Li Yujie in the repechage. Iran's Roza Ebrahimi will take on Kazakshtan's Kamilya for the gold medal in this category.

Arika Gurung Bags Silver Medal At The 19th ASIAD

Hangzhou (HamroKhelkud) - Karate athlete Arika Gurung has bagged a silver medal in the 68 KG weight category in the ongoing 19th Asian Games (ASIAD). Arika fell short against Sofia Berultseva of Kazakhstan, limiting her to a silver medal. This is the third silver medal for Nepal at the Asian Games. Earlier, Sabita Raj Bhandari won silver in 1998, followed by Nepal's paragliding team in 2018. Arika, with a loss in the final, failed to capture Nepal's first goal in ASIAD. Arika previously defeated Hong Kong's Yan Kai Ho in the semi-finals and entered the final. She secured her place in the gold medal match by registering an 8-4 victory.
