Manita Shrestha Pradhan Eliminated In First Paris Olympics Fight

By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – The poor performance of Nepalese athletes at the Paris Olympics continues. Manita Shrestha Pradhan, competing in judo, has been eliminated in her first match.

In the women’s 57 kg category on Monday, Manita was defeated by Marica Perisic of Serbia via Ippon while lasting only 1 minute and 2 seconds on the mat.

Despite being a silver medalist and a World Championship player with experience in many Asian-level competitions, Manita could not perform impressively today. Nepal’s best performance in judo remains with Phupu Lamu Khatri, who competed in the Rio Olympics but didn’t advance far.

Manita is the fourth Nepalese athlete to be eliminated in the first round of the ongoing Olympics. Earlier eliminations include Santoo Shrestha in table tennis, Sushmita Nepal in shooting, and Duana Lama in swimming. Prince Dahal is still competing, playing his group-stage match today.

In total, seven Nepalese athletes from six sports are participating in the Paris Olympics.
