Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal’s mixed martial arts fighter Rabindra Dhant is set to face Australian opponent Korey Sutcliffe this coming Saturday. They will headline the Nepal Warriors Championship (NWC) 3 at Lord of the Drinks (LOD) in Thamel, Kathmandu.
At a press conference held two days before the match to sign the contract on Thursday, Rabindra expressed his readiness. He shared his excitement about competing in front of a home crowd but emphasized that once the fight begins, the location becomes irrelevant.
“One or two months before and after the fight, there is a realization,” he said. “Once you get to the fight, it’s a fight anywhere in the world.”
Korey Sutcliffe also declared his preparedness for the bout. Having recently spent time in India, he admitted his limited knowledge of the Nepali MMA scene but acknowledged Rabindra’s recent journey.
“I don’t know much about the Nepali MMA scene. But I have heard of Rabindra. I am aware of his journey,” Korey said.
Rabindra’s last two fights were in the ONE Championship, where he became the first Nepali to compete. He holds a professional record of 6-1, with his unbeaten streak broken last December by Pakistan’s Ismail Khan via unanimous decision.
Prior to that, he defeated Russian Torepchi Dongak by technical knockout (TKO) under ONE Championship. His opposition Sutcliffe’s professional record stands at 2-1.
In addition to the main event, NWC 3 will feature six other bouts. The co-main event will see Nepal’s Sunny Khatri face India’s Bishal Sahu. There will also be five other amateur fights.
Rabindra, a permanent resident of Bajhang, travelled to India in search of employment due to his family’s financial status. He completed his SLC in Nepal, worked in India, and then began training in mixed martial arts while also learning karate.
He has been actively involved in martial arts for the past few years at Nepal’s Lock and Roll MMA, managed by Divij Piya. He made the decision to go to the One Championship after winning a few tournaments in India.
