Ninth National Games deferred yet again

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The Ninth National Games scheduled to be held in Pokhara of Gandaki Province in June has been postponed once again. The Ministry for Youth and Sports confirmed that the games have been deferred. Organising a press conference on Tuesday, the ministry said that the national games have been rescheduled for October. According to the ministry, the Ninth National Games will now be held from October 14 to 20. Earlier, a meeting of the Council of Ministers had decided to organize the Ninth National Games from June 5 to 11 in Pokhara. Preparation for Ninth National Games stalled

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The Ninth National Games is unlikely to be held in the scheduled date. A meeting of the Council of Ministers on April 13 had decided to organize the mega event in Pokhara from June 5 to 11. However, the government has not taken any decision even though it seems unlikely that the games will be held on time. The number of sports discipline for the national games have been already decided while the logo, mascot and the slogan for the games have been made public. However, no other concrete steps have been taken besides that. This is almost certain to defer the games. Sports fraternity pays last respect to deceased weighlifter Chaudhary

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Sports fraternity of Nepal paid their last respect to South Asian Games gold medalist Sanju Chaudhary, who was found dead at her room in Lalitpur on Tuesday. National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising draped her body with the national flag and offered flowers to the deceased Chaudhary.  Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha and other sports persons also paid their last respect to Chaudhary. Nepal Weightlifting Association informed that Chaudhary’s body will be sent to her home in Aadarsha Tole of Rapti Sonari Rural Municipality in Banke today itself. Gold medalist Chaudhary found dead

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Weightlifter Sanju Chaudhary, a gold medalist of the 13th South Asian Games, has been found dead at her rented room in Lalitpur on Tuesday. Chaudhary was undergoing training for the upcoming Asian Games and was living in a rented room at the house of weightlifting coach Sanjay Maharjan at Lubhu, Lalitpur.     Mahalaxmi Police Post in-charge Senior Sub Inspector Santosh Baral confirmed that Chaudhary was found dead at her room at 5:30 am this morning. Baral informed that the door of the room was locked from inside. According to the preliminary investigation of police, Chaudhary is believed to have committed suicide. Umesh Rai lifts Dharmashree title

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Jhapa’s Umesh Rai has lifted the title of 16th Dharmashree Bodybuilding Championship on Sunday. He finished ahead of Lalit Dhimal of Jhapa-based Galaxy Fitness Club. Rai bagged a trophy, medal, certificate and cash prize of Rs 1 million. Runner-up Dhimal received cash prize of Rs 500,000. Third-placed Krishna Bahadur Suryabanshi of Naya Bazar walked home with a cash prize of Rs 200,000. Likewise, Aswastha Sthapit of Nepal Byam Mandir won the title of the men’s physique event organized for the first time under this championship. In the women’s section, Bhaktapur’s Jasmine Lama won the honours.

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal Swimming Association is all set to organize the 24th Open and Age Group Swimming Championship next week. Organising a press meet in the capital on Thursday, the association informed that the championship will be held on May 5 and 6 as a tune-up for the upcoming national and international championships. The Ninth National Games are being held in Pokhara from June 5 to 11, the 19th  Asian Games in China from September 10 to 25 and the 19th World Swimming Championship in Budapest in 2022. The upcoming championship will be held at Satdobato Swimming Comples, Lalitpur and includes competition in 23 different categories. Six players receive financial assistance for treatment

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The National Players Welfare Fund under the National Sports Council (NSC) on Tuesday provided financial assistance to six players of five different sports disciplines for treatment. The six players who are current undergoing treatment received financial support of Rs 556,843 for their treatment. Athlete Jit Bahadur KC, who secured the first international medal for Nepal, and karateka Bishnu Nepali received Rs 125,000 each. KC sustained a hand injury while Nepali is suffering from paralysis. Member Secretary Ghising provides financial support for players welfare fund

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu -National Sports Council’s Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising has provided financial support to the National Players’ Welfare Fund. Ghising on Monday handed a cheque of Rs 209,114 to the Member Secretary of the fund Deepak Shrestha, who is also the president of Nepal National and International Players Association (NNIPA). Member Secretary Ghising provided the amount equivalent to four months of his salary to the fund. The Government of Nepal had appointed Ghising as the member secretary of NSC about five months ago on November 29, 2021. However, Ghising was unable to attend office for four months after then then Member Secretary Ramesh Bista filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court. Nepal to compete in 23 events during the 19th Asian Games
