Ninth National Games Executive Committee gets full shape

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The executive committee formed organize the Ninth National Games in accordance to section 8 (1) of the Ninth National Games Organising Directive has got a full shape. Coordinator of the committee and National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising on Sunday handed over letter of nominations to the members nominated to the committee. Formal preparations for Ninth National Games begins

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The National Sports Council (NSC), the organizer of the Ninth National Games to be held in Gandaki Province, has announced the beginning of formal preparations for the mega event. A meeting of the main organizing committee of the Ninth National Games on Friday announced formal beginning of the preparations for the games. The ninth edition of the national games will be held in all 11 districts of Gandaki Province from October 14 to 20.   The organizing committee has decided to open its secretariats in Kathmandu and Pokhara soon. After conducting the first two editions of the championships successfully, Nepal E-Sports Association organized a press conference in the capital on Wednesday to inform about the third edition. NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha gets portfolio of tourism ministry

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - President of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) Jeevan Ram Shrestha has been appointed as the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba appointed Shrestha as the new tourism minister while reshuffling the cabinet on Sunday. Shrestha is also a former member secretary of the National Sports Council and a lawmaker from the ruling CPN Unified Socialist party. By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - National Sports Council’s Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising on Monday bade farewell to the national kabaddi team for its preparation for the Asian  Games. The 15-member team and 4 coaches will prepare for the Asiad in Mahendranagar. The national kabaddi team left for Mahendranagar today itself after the farewell. During the farewell, Ghising said this is not just a training but the first phase of closed camp training. He said that this training will also serve as a preparation for the upcoming Ninth National Games. Closed-Camp Training for Asian Games Begins

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal has started closed camp training for the 19th Asian Games to be held in China. All 23 sports disciplines that Nepal will feature during the event have kicked off the training from Tuesday. National Sports Council (NSC) Member Secretary Tanka Lal Ghising jointly inaugurated the training of all 23 sports discipline. The first phase training started from June 7 and will conclude on July 7. A total of 514 players including 230 male and 284 females are currently undergoing closed camp training. Government increases budget for sports sector

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The government has increased budget for sports sector for the upcoming fiscal year. Presenting the budget in the joint session of parliament on Sunday, Finance Minister announced a budget of Rs 2.46 billion for the sports sector. The budget allocated for the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the current fiscal year is Rs 2.36 billion. The government has allocated budget for public private partnership for promoting adventure and mountaineering sports tourism and for infrastructure development in this regard. Tamang, Rai win Everest Marathon titles

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Tirtha Bahadur Tamang and Purnimaya Rai have won the 17th Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon in men’s and women’s sections respectively. Tamang took 3 hours 51 minutes and 9 seconds to complete the 42-km marathon organized to commemorate the successful ascent of Mt Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on May 29, 1953. Rai finished the marathon with a timing of 5 hours 19 minutes and 15 seconds. The marathon that started from Everest Base Camp and concluded at Namche Bazar. Rajkumar Rajbhandari finished second and Sumal Kulung secured the third position in the men’s section.
