Tamang, Rai win Everest Marathon titles

Kathmandu – Tirtha Bahadur Tamang and Purnimaya Rai have won the 17th Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon in men’s and women’s sections respectively.

Tamang took 3 hours 51 minutes and 9 seconds to complete the 42-km marathon organized to commemorate the successful ascent of Mt Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary on May 29, 1953. Rai finished the marathon with a timing of 5 hours 19 minutes and 15 seconds.

The marathon that started from Everest Base Camp and concluded at Namche Bazar.

Rajkumar Rajbhandari finished second and Sumal Kulung secured the third position in the men’s section. In the foreigners’ category, Switzerland’s Bernhard Ginger clocked 5 hours 51 minutes and 37 seconds to finish first among the foreign nationals.
