Kathmandu – President of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) Jeevan Ram Shrestha has been appointed as the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba appointed Shrestha as the new tourism minister while reshuffling the cabinet on Sunday. Shrestha is also a former member secretary of the National Sports Council and a lawmaker from the ruling CPN Unified Socialist party.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari administered oath of office and secrecy to the new appointed minister Shrestha along with three other cabinet ministers on Monday. The other three ministers inducted in the cabinet include Metmani Chaudhary (Minister for Urban Development), Sher Bahadur Kunwar (Minister for Labour and Social Security) and Bhavani Khapung (Health Minister) while Hira Chandra KC has been appointed state minister for health and population.
The new ministers were appointed 22 days after the CPN Unified Socialist decided to call back five of its ministers from the cabinet. The cabinet reshuffle had been delayed due to the deliberations in the parliament.
