Kathmandu – Nepal Swimming Association is all set to organize the 24th Open and Age Group Swimming Championship next week.
Organising a press meet in the capital on Thursday, the association informed that the championship will be held on May 5 and 6 as a tune-up for the upcoming national and international championships.
The Ninth National Games are being held in Pokhara from June 5 to 11, the 19th Asian Games in China from September 10 to 25 and the 19th World Swimming Championship in Budapest in 2022.
The upcoming championship will be held at Satdobato Swimming Comples, Lalitpur and includes competition in 23 different categories. A total of 150 players will be competing in the event which is being organized with an estimated cost of Rs 600,000. The organisers are expecting more than five new national records.
General Secretary of Nepal Swimming Association Jagat Man Shrestha informed that the championship will serve as the final selection for the World Swimming Championship and as a preliminary selection for the Asiad.
President of the association Ashok Bajracharya said that they have already sent the list of 18 players including two Olympians for the Asiad. He added that it is compulsory to compete in the national games to be selected for the Asian Games.
The association had not been able to organize any swimming events since the last two years due to the impact of Covid-19.
