Prasamsha Moktan wins silver in tennis championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepali tennis player Prasamsha Moktan has secured silver medal in Circuit-1 of the First Qatar Asian Junior U-19 Tennis Championship. Moktan clinched silver medal in both singles and doubles category under the championship held at Doha-based Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. According to Moktan’s father Sulabh, she lost the final against Alexandra of Russia 6-3, 6-1 in the singles category. In the doubles section, Moktan partnered with Safia Al Thani. She is the lone player representing Nepal in the championship.

Nepal enters final in cadet table tennis

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal has entered the final of South Asian Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Championship underway in the Maldives. Nepal’s cadet girls’ team defeated Sri Lanka 3-1 in the semifinal to reach the final, according to All Nepal Table Tennis Association’s Vice President Dharma Man Bajracharya. Nepal will next face India in the title clash. The Nepali players competing in the event include Sanyog Kapali, Rubina Maharjan, Sujan Gadal, Evana Thapa Magar, Bianca Rai, Subashree Shrestha, Prince Thapa and Ujjawal Manandhar. The Nepali team also includes match commissioner Tejendra Mahara and coach Mohan Das Basukala. The tournament that kicked off on May 9 will conclude this Wednesday.

Players selected for South Asian Junior Table Tennis C’ship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - The All Nepal Table Tennis Association has selected players for the South Asian Junior Table Tennis Championship. The association’s first vice president Dharma Man Bajracharya informed that a total of 10 players have been selected for cadet and junior events. According to Bajracharya, Prince Thapa and Ujjwal Manandhar have been selected for the cadet boys event while Evana Thapa and Bianca Rai have been selected for cadet girls event. Similarly, players selected for the junior boys event include Sanyog Kapali, Rubin Maharjan and Sujan Gadal while Anju Suwal, Manju Suwal and Subhashree Shrestha were selected for the junior girls event. The championship will be held in the Maldives from May 8 to 12.

Alina Maharjan voted People’s Choice Award winner

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Table tennis player Alina Maharjan won the People’s Choice Award under the Pulsar Sports Award held on Tuesday. She finished ahead of cricketer Kushal Bhurtel, shuttler Prince Dahal and footballer Anjila Subba to win the award. Alina Maharjan received 47.833 percent of the total votes cast in the run-up to the awards ceremony. She has reached the second position in table tennis ranking in Nepal and has won bronze medals twice in the South Asian Games including the 12th and 13th editions in women’s team event. Besides being an active player, she is also a table tennis coach. Maharjan is also active in social works. She donated half of the prize money she received from SAG for the families affected by Covid-19.
