Nepali boxers crash out of World Boxing Championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepali boxers Minu Gurung and Chandrakala Thapa crashed out of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship on Thursday after losing their respective bouts in Istanbul. Gurung lost her match against Japan’s Rinka Kinosita in the flyweight (50 to 53 kg) category on the basis of points. Similarly, Thapa lost her match against Indian player Manisha in the 54 to 57 kg weight category.  Manisha had reached the quarterfinal of AIBA World Boxing Championship held in  Indian in 2018.

Sushma Tamang loses competitive match in Women’s World Boxing C’ship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepali boxer Sushma Tamang lost a competitive match during the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship underway in Istanbul, Turkey. Tamang lost the match against Mongolian player Lanchiv Yon in the women’s 46 to 48 kg category on Wednesday. Although Tamang played exceptionally well, the outcome was not in her favour. She was confident of being declared the winner but the jury decided 3:2 in favour of the Mongolian player. The judges ruled that Tamang fired less punches in the first round compared to the second and third. Although she improved her performance in the second round, the Mongolian player took advantage of a lapse in defense as her left guard was exposed. She kept on hitting punches but the Mongolian player did not lose her guard....

AIBA unveils draw of World Women’s Boxing Championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - World governing bod of amateur boxing has unveiled the draw of the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship to being held in Istanbul of Turkey. The draw made public on Monday shows that Nepal’s Sushma Tamang will face Mongolia’s Lanwich Yon in the women’s 46 to 48 kg category.  Tamang will compete Tuesday. There are 32 boxers in this weight category. Nepal’s Minu Gurung will compete in the women’s 50 to 52 kg category. She will face Japan’s R Kinoshita on Wednesday. There are competitors from 28 nations in this section. Four boxers called for closed-camp training ahead of world’s women boxing championship

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal Boxing Association has called four players for a closed camp training for the upcoming World Women’s Boxing Championship. The association has called the four best female boxers to for the training ahead of the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship 2022 scheduled to be held in Istanbul from May 6 to 21. The upcoming event is the 21st edition of women’s world championship. Nepal Boxing Association has called Sushma Tamang, Minu Gurung, Chandrakala Thapa and Punam Rawal for the closed camp training. Tamang will compete in women’s 48 kg category, SAG gold medalist Gurung in 52 kg, Thapa in 57 kg and Rawal in 60 kg. Nepali players secure 4 medals in US Open and Junior Int’l Cup

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal secured four medals in the US Open and Junior International Cup held recently in Las Vegas. Nepali players residing in the USA grabbed the medals for the country. Two players representing Martial Arts Academy bagged two medals each for Nepal. Yangten Lama secured two silver medals in the boys’ 8-9 year group while Yangjum Lama clinched a silver and a bronze medal in the girls’ 14-15 year group. Yangten lost the final against Americal player Ramiarez Kaleu 6-3. Similarly, Yangjum was defeated by Americal player Niyank Amineta 6-1 in the final. SAG goldmedalist Nirmala Tamang wins women’s singles kata title

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nirmala Tamang of Nepal Police Club has clinched gold in women’s singles kata during the Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Memorial National Karate Championship on Thursday. In the men’s section, Police Club’s Mahasoos Moktan secured gold. Nirmala Tamang defeated Tribhuvan Army Club’s Sangita Magar in the women’s singles kata final held at the Karate Hall in Satdobato on the opening day of the championship. Nepali taekwondo team heading for Belgium on Thursday

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - A ten-member Nepali taekwondo team is heading towards Belgium on Thursday to participate in the Belgian Open G-2 Taekwondo Championship. The Nepal team includes six male players. The championship will be held in Belgium on March 19 and 20. The Nepali team includes Dhan Bahadur Darai (U-80 kg), Dipendra Bahadur Nepali (U-74 kg), Sishir Shrestha (U-68 kg), Bir Bahadur Mahara (U-68 kg), Abbas Khan (U-63 kg) and Mohammad Umar Khan (U-54 kg). School-level boxing championship for the first time in Nepal

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - A school-level boxing tournament is going to be held for the first time in Nepal later this month. The Sports Promotion Organisation of Nepal (SPON) is all set to organize the First All Nepal School Boys and Girls Boxing Championship 2022 from March 19 to  21 at the  Covered Hall of the National Sports Council, Tripureshwar with technical support from Nepal Boxing Association. Boxers between 12 to 14 years are eligible to compete in the event. The organisers informed that children born between January 2007 to December 31, 2009 will be allowed to contest in the tournament. Taekwondo’s Sanjiv Nepali felicitated

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - International taekwondo player and coach Sanjiv Nepali has been felicitated for his achievements in international championships. Tarkeshwar Municipality feted the taekwondo player on Sunday for his contribution to the development of the game in Nepal. Mayor of Tarkeshwar Municipality Rameshwar Bohara felicitated Nepali saying that he played an important role in helping spread Nepal’s prestige in international level through the medium of taekwondo. Nepali, who hails from Nijgadh of Bara district, is an international taekwondo player as well as coach and referee. He has represented Nepal in taekwondo championships held in different countries including Hong Kong, Thailand, Spain, Japan, Canada and the USA.
