Kathmandu – Nepal secured four medals in the US Open and Junior International Cup held recently in Las Vegas.
Nepali players residing in the USA grabbed the medals for the country. Two players representing Martial Arts Academy bagged two medals each for Nepal.
Yangten Lama secured two silver medals in the boys’ 8-9 year group while Yangjum Lama clinched a silver and a bronze medal in the girls’ 14-15 year group.
Yangten lost the final against Americal player Ramiarez Kaleu 6-3. Similarly, Yangjum was defeated by Americal player Niyank Amineta 6-1 in the final.
Other Nepali players Bijay Lama (U-67 kg) and Hari Prasad Sedhai (U-75 kg) finished the games without any medals. The event was held in Las Vegas from April 13 to 17.
All four Nepali players train at the USA-based Martial Arts Academy.
South Asian Games gold medalist Sunil Lama was the team manager. Janak Singh Khadka assumed the responsibility of official-cum-referee while Roma Gurung played the role of an official during the event. The team was sponsored by Namgyal Lama of Lama Accounting firm.
