Kathmandu – World governing bod of amateur boxing has unveiled the draw of the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship to being held in Istanbul of Turkey. The draw made public on Monday shows that Nepal’s Sushma Tamang will face Mongolia’s Lanwich Yon in the women’s 46 to 48 kg category. Tamang will compete Tuesday. There are 32 boxers in this weight category.

Nepal’s Minu Gurung will compete in the women’s 50 to 52 kg category. She will face Japan’s R Kinoshita on Wednesday. There are competitors from 28 nations in this section.
Similarly, Nepal’s Chandrakala Thapa earned a bye in the first round and will next face India’s Manisha in the women’s 54 to 57 kg category on Wednesday. Likewise, another Nepali boxer Poonam Rawal also earned a bye in the first round and will next face the winner of the match between Greece and Morocco on May 15.
Altogether 310 boxers from 73 nations are competing in the world championship. The top three winners of each category will be awarded cash prize of US$ 100,000, US$ 50,000 and US$ 25,000 respectively.
