Kathmandu – Nirmala Tamang of Nepal Police Club has clinched gold in women’s singles kata during the Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Memorial National Karate Championship on Thursday. In the men’s section, Police Club’s Mahasoos Moktan secured gold.
Nirmala Tamang defeated Tribhuvan Army Club’s Sangita Magar in the women’s singles kata final held at the Karate Hall in Satdobato on the opening day of the championship. Nirmala scored 24.8 points while Sangita finished with 24.6 points. Both the players had secured team championship title in kata event during the 13th South Asian Games held in Nepal two years ago. APF Club’s Sarita Shrestha and Pratikshya Pakhrin of Province 1 settled for bronze medals.
This championship serves as a preliminary selection of players for the 19th Asian Games.
Altogether 210 players from all seven provinces and three departmental teams (police, army and APF) are competing for 21 golds, 21 silvers and 42 bronzes in the three-day event.
