Nepal Thrash Syria To Open WAFF Women’s Championship With A Win

By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu (Hamro Khelkud) - Nepal have commenced their invitation to the WAFF Women’s Championship 2024 with a convincing win over Syria. Nepal toppled the Syrian side ranked 160th in the world 4-1 to get their campaign off and running with a win. Nepal’s goals came from Amisha Karki, Anita Basnet, Sabitra ‘Samba’ Bhandari and Rekha Poudel.  Nepal asserted their dominance from the get-go keeping possession and running rounds around the Syrian defence, forcing mistakes out of the Syrian side time and again. In a match held at the Dasharath Stadium on the occasion of the Chinese New Year, Nepal registered a 5-1 victory. A Samir Tamang brace, along with goals from Sanjeeb Bista, Chhiring Lama and Nirajan Dhami secured the win for Nepal. An Ayush Ghalan cross combined with a glancing header from Sanjeeb Bista at the near post handed Nepal the lead of the match in just the second minute. KP Team Football Club will face off against Church Boys United on the 11th of Falgun in the tournament opener. The winners of this opening match will advance to meet Jawalakhel Youth Club in the quarterfinals. This year, a total of 12 teams are set to participate in the competition.
