Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Sabitra Bhandari ‘Samba’, the forward of the Nepali National Women’s Football Team, is set to embark on a new journey in France’s first division league.
Having signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the top-division club Avant Guingamp, her participation in France’s top-tier league is now confirmed. This move transpired after the French club reached an agreement with Israel’s Hapoel Ranana. Samba flew to France on Monday, bypassing a return to Israel due to the ongoing conflict, and her travel to France was facilitated by the influence she had in Israel for a brief period.
At Guingamp, Sabitra will don the number 28 jersey. The announcement on Sunday has increased the prospect of her potential inclusion for the upcoming league match on Saturday. Guingamp, currently positioned in the lower half of the points table, are slated to face Bordeaux this weekend.
Guingamp currently hold the tenth spot with a record of 2 wins, 2 draws, and 8 losses in 12 league games. Their opponents, Bordeaux, trail behind with 5 points from 12 games. There 10 games remaining in the season in the 12-team league.
French women’s league is widely regarded as one of the best in the world. Clubs like Olympique Lyonnais and Paris Saint-Germain boas world-class players and are participating in the Champions League.
