Heavy Loss Against India Rounds Off Nepal’s Stay At U-19 World Cup

Kathmandu (Hamro Khelkud) – Nepal have ended the ICC U-19 World Cup campaign in South Africa with a loss against India. Nepal suffered a 132 run loss against India to end the campaign with a big loss.

Chasing a big target of 298 runs in 50 overs, Nepal completed the whole innings losing nine wickets for 165. Skipper Dev Khanal was the top scorer for Nepal with 33 runs in 53 deliveries. He was sent back to the pavilion as the ninth wicket. After his dismissal, Aakash Chand and Durgesh Gupta played the remaining 10 overs and saved the last wicket. Aakash made a 35-ball 18 while Durgesh played an innings of 29 runs in 43 deliveries with two fours and a six.  

Opener Arjun Kumal made 26 runs off 64. Similarly, his opening partner Deepak Bohora made 22 off 52. The rest of the batters failed to reach double figures.

Saumy Pandey took four wickets for Nepal with Arshin Kulkarni taking two while Raj Limbani, Aaradhya Shukla and Murugan Abhisekh took one each. 

Earlier, batting first after winning the toss in Bloemfontein, India got to a total of 297 runs losing five wickets. Sachin Dhas scored a ton and got to 116 runs for India with 11 fours and three sixes in 101 deliveries. Similarly, Indian skipper Saharan Uday also got to triple figures and was dismissed for 100 in 107 deliveries with nine fours in his innings.

Uday and Dhas put together a 215-run stand for the fourth wicket to take the game away from Nepal. Gulshan Jha took three wickets for Nepal while Aakash Chand picked up one.

Nepal ended the Super Six stage with zero points with losses against Bangladesh and India. Nepal had defeated Afghanistan in the group stages that propelled them to the second stage while losing against Pakistan and New Zealand earlier in the tournament.
