Bayern sign Upamecano

Bayern Munich has signed the defender Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig. The French center-back expected to join the European champions in July before the 2021-22 season. The 22-year-old Upamecano agreed to sign a five-year extension to keep him at Bayern until 2026. Financial details of the move were not given, but Bayern had activated his release clause, worth about EUR 42.5 million, published by German media. “We’re happy that we’ve been able to sign Dayot Upamecano for Bayern Munich. We’re convinced that Dayot will be a very important member of our team in the coming years,” Bayern’s board member for sport, Hasan Salihamidzic, said in a statement. With a move to Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea, Upamecano had been linked. Now he's going to spend the rest of the seas...

Patrick Bamford under Bielsa

Bamford’s career appeared not so sluggish to burn as all but extinguished, after five years on Chelsea's books. He didn’t make a first-team appearance and witnessed strained relationships with Pardew, Neil and Dyche during loan stints at Crystal Palace, Norwich and Burnley. He was sold to Middlesbrough in 2017 from Chelsea and then just a year after that to Leeds. Bamford registered his career's 100th professional goal as Leeds beat Crystal Palace last Monday. Those experts who had declared he was not a center-forward of the Premier League were absolutely silenced. This season it was his 12th in 22 top-tier games. And given that Harry Kane scored 13 and Jamie Vardy 12 emphasized precisely why the 27-year-old striker is now in contention for a call from England. This metamorph...

Southgate in a selection dilemma

England and Gareth Southgate has a lot of dilemma about the selection of England National Football team this year. Even though the European Championship got postponed the hype still remains. England boss Southgate will have vast options while going into this tournament. Especially the uncapped players from all over England have done so well it’ll be a tough job for him. Few uncapped players who have done extremely well this season are James Justin (Leicester), Olie Watkins (Aston Villa), Patrick Bamford (Leeds), and Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal). Justin has benched Ricardo Pereira this season. Pereira who was in top form last season was injured since the beginning of the season and was thought to be back in the lineup once he gets fit. But Justin’s performance was so good that he c...

Mourinho criticizes Bale’s post

Tottenham Hotspurs head coach Jose Mourinho has criticized Gareth Bale’s post over his fitness. Gareth Bale had initially posted that he had a good training session. But Mourinho says it created a confusion as this post made people think that he was fully fit and was training with the first team. Also Bale had told Mourinho that he wasn’t feeling well. After the 5-4 loss against Everton, Mourinho then felt forced to explain the situation, providing information that he had not intended to make public. He said Bale asked for a scan on an unspecified issue on Monday. And still felt uncomfortable after training on Tuesday, even though the scan did not indicate an injury. “I have to admit that his post created something that needed to be addressed because there was a contradiction...

Arsenal vs Leeds United: Preview

For the first time since2004, on Sunday, Arsenal host Leeds United in the Premier League. Just one point and one position separate the two sides in the Premier League table. Visitors head to the 10th-sitting Emirates Stadium in the table and with a game in hand over their hosts. Arsenal host Leeds to North London for a top-flight meeting the last time since 2004. A 1-0 loss last weekend at Villa Park ensures that only the bottom four of the league have failed to score in more games this season than Arsenal. And their form does not bode well going into a possible season-defining time. Six of Arsenal's next seven league matches are against teams currently above them in the table. Marcelo Bielsa’s men have won three of their last four games to ascend the table with a game in hand a...

In-form Gundogan sinks Tottenham

Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City beat Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Etihad on Saturday. Manchester City continued their supremacy at the top of the Premier League table. Rodri's first-half penalty followed by Ilkay Gundogan's brace means City is now seven points ahead of Leicester City. They defeated Liverpool 3-1 earlier in the day. From early on, when Pierre Emile Hojbjerg brought Gundogan down in the box after 23 minutes, Spurs were in trouble. Ederson began to make his approach to the pitch to take the penalty like Pep said in the last conference. But was sent back instead as Rodri stepped up. Gundogan doubled City's lead five minutes into the second half. Raheem Sterling fed a ball into the box and Gundogan just had to poke home. On 66 minutes, Ederson compensa...

Leicester beat Liverpool

Jamie Vardy, James Maddison and Harvey Barnes all scored to defeat Liverpool 3-1 on Saturday. Mohamed Salah scored Liverpool’s only goal. The best chances came for both teams but couldn’t capitalize on it. Vardy and Firmino both had good chances to give their side the lead but were unfortunate. Just before the hour mark, Alexander-Arnold hit the crossbar. But in the 67th minute, Salah broke the deadlock. The Leicester defense had blocked Alexander-shot. The Leicester defense had blocked Alexander-shot. But it only ricocheted as far as Firmino, who tapped the ball back to Salah without looking to see if he was there. He then slotted the ball past Kasper Schmeichel calmly. On 77 minutes, Leicester had a double VAR analysis, which saw them lose a penalty but score the free-kick ...

Klopp misses mother’s funeral

Due to strict quarantine rules in England, Klopp was unable to go to Germany to attend his mother’s funeral. Klopp paid an emotional tribute to Elisabeth after her death, aged 81. But due to concerns of transmitting Covid-19 strains from high-risk countries, it is known that he could not attend the funeral in person in his native Germany. “She meant everything to me. She was a real mum in the best sense of the word,” Klopp told German newspaper Schwarzwaelder Bote. “As a devout Christian, I know she is in a better place now. “The fact that I can’t be at the funeral is due to the terrible times, but as soon as the circumstances allow, we will hold a wonderful commemoration that is appropriate to it.” Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola’s mother, Dolors Sala Carrió, also d...

Harrison and Bamford give Leeds all 3 points

Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford scored in either half of the game to give Leeds a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace. It was the first win for Leeds this year and they now are in the top half of the table. Crystal Palace missed Wilfred Zaha as they didn’t look sharp all 90 minutes. Eberechi Eze tried to test Leeds goalkeeper but wasn’t able to put past him. However, Leeds were too quick to respond and scored just after 150 seconds. Shot from Harrison took a little deflection off Gary Cahill and looped high into the net. Guaita saved a header from Bamford which came to him from an Alioski cross. Bamford missed another chance in the 22nd minute when he left Gary Cahill behind from the halfway line. But he shot the ball off the target. It was now Palace’s time to threaten as Eze’s brill...

Atletico held despite Luis Suarez brace

Luis Suarez scored 2 goals in 5 minutes but a late goal from Ferreyra drew Celta Vigo level against Atletico Madrid. Ferreyra was the debutant for Celta in the match and had the final say. Atletico fell behind in the 13th minute as Santi Mina scored from close range. A beautifully worked cross from Mallo and Mina put it into the box as he wasn’t marked by anybody. It was Luis Suarez’s tap in from Marcos Llorente cross to make the score level. Celta were trying too hard to get the goal but couldn’t and the match remained with Atletico. Luis Suarez’s brilliance continued as he scored another in the 50th minute. He scored in a similar fashion but this time from Renan Lodi ball. It was his 7th goal in 4 matches in the league and is now in La Liga's top goalscorer charts with 16 goal...
