Kathmandu – South Asian Games gold medalist Minu Gurung of Tribhuvan Army Club stormed into the semifinal of Ganeshman Memorial National Boxing Championship on Thursday defeating Asmita Duwal of Bagmati Province in the women’s 51 kg weight category.

Likewise, Maya Khatri of Lubini Province also made it to the semis after winning her match against Sonia Shetty of Far Western Province on the third day of the championship being held at Basantapur Durbar Square.
Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police Club beat Sumina Khadka of Madhes Province to reach the semifinal in women’s 57 kg category. Likewise, Sushmita Rai of Province 1 reached the semis after defeating Seema Gurung of Gandaki Province.
Sangeeta Sunar of APF earned a walkover from Samjhana Deula to secure a berth in the semifinal of women’s 60 kg. In another quarterfinal match of the same category, Narika Rai of Province 1 defeated Surakshya Kumari Kumal of Lumbini Province to reach the semis. Jun Maya Tharu of Lumbini Province also made it to the semifinal in women’s 69 kg defeating Asmita Chand of Karnali Province.
Saugat Kumar of Gandaki and Puran Rai of APF also reached the semifinals in men’s 57 kg category winning their respective matches.
Likewise, Madan Krishna Dangol and Pradeep Maharjan of APF also made it to the semis in men;s 52 kg. Other players who made it to the semis were Puran Sunuwar of Army and Anil Pun of Lumbini in men’s 63 kg, Dan Bahadur Darlami of Army and Sirish Khanal of Bagmati in men’s 69 kg, and Dil Raj Bhandari of Karnali as well as Sanam Gurung of Province 1 in men’s 75 kg.
Roshan Syangtan (men’s 81 kg) of Bagmati, Shyam Bahadur Mahata (men’s 81 kg) of Sudur Paschim, Ganesh Pradhan (men’s 91 kg) of Army and Prasis Ruchal (men’s 91 kg) of Bagmati also reached the semis after winning their respective matches.
