Paras Khadka Announces His Candidacy For CAN Bagmati Province Presidency

Kathmandu – Nepal Cricket Team legend and former skipper Paras Khadka has officially announced his candidacy for the position of president of the Bagmati Province Cricket Association. 

There were many speculations about his administrative future after he announced a shock retirement two years ago. And on Friday, Paras formally announced that he will run for the president of Bagmati province at a press conference in Kathmandu. Paras had already informed informally about his candidacy before. He has already been elected as a member of the Kathmandu District Cricket Association. 

Amid the press conference, the majority of the members have promised to support Paras Khadka in the Bagmati Provincial Cricket Association elections to be held next week. Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Makwanpur District Associations held a joint press conference today. The remaining two recognized member associations Nuwakot and Chitwan, were absent from the press conference. 

While Paras will run for president representing Kathmandu, Makwanpur representative will run for vice-president, Lalitpur will vie for secretary while Makwanpur for treasurer. Seven out of 13 members of the current working committee of Bagmati Provincial Union have agreed to support Paras in the elections.

Bagmati Province Cricket Association president Raju Basnet, vice-president Prem Chhetri, treasurer Anil Adhikari along with seven other members will support Paras for the presidency. 27 votes will be cast in the province that includes 24 from six districts and 13 from the current working committee of the Bagmati Province. According to the commitment shown, Paras has 23 out of 37 total votes in his favor. 

Cricket Association of Nepal central elections are being held in the first week of Ashoj. 45 district association and three provincial association elections have already concluded. Four provinces are yet to finalize their new committees.
