Nepal’s First Medal At 19th ASIAD Comes In Women’s Kabaddi

Hangzhou (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal have been limited to a bronze medal in Women’s Kabaddi in the ongoing 19th Asian Games (ASIAD) in China.

After losing to India 61-17 in the semi-final at the Xiaoshan Guali Sports Centre in Hangzhou, the failure to qualify for the final made sure Nepal had to accept a bronze medal. Nepal were trailing 29-10 at the break. India inflicted a total of five all-outs in the match en route to making four out of four finals in women’s kabaddi at the continental showpiece.

In the other semifinal, Chinese Taipei inflicted a shock defeat to defending champions Iran, confirming their fight for the gold medal against India. India are the silver medalists of the previous edition and are two-time champions.

Nepal, in group B, lost to Iran in the first match before defeating Bangladesh and qualifying for the semifinals, confirming a medal- the first for Nepal at this edition of the Asian Games.

The losing teams in the semifinals of Kabaddi are both awarded bronze medals. Nepal’s Women’s Kabaddi Team have grabbed a medal in their first participation at the Asian Games.
