Messi’s magic inspires Barcelona to lift Copa Del Rey

Barcelona have won the Copa Del Rey for the 31st time in their history. Barcelona beat Athletic Bilbao 0-4 to win the cup as Lionel Messi scored twice and one each coming from De Jong and Griezmann.

Barcelona who lost to Real Madrid last weekend didn’t look like the same side. Barcelona had most of the possession in the first half and looked threatening. De Jong and Messi even took their chances but shot wide. Simon pulled some excellent saves as Bosquets and Pedri also tried to break the deadlock.

Griezmann finally broke the deadlock as he scored from a De Jong cross. Minutes later De Jong doubled the lead. Few minutes later Messi trebled Barcelona’s lead as he floated past defenders dribbling making one touch passes and finally slotting it home. Four minutes later he scored again as he won his 7th Copa Del Rey and put the nail in the coffin.

After the match Messi seem to be delighted. “It’s very special to lift this Cup as captain of this club, it’s a very happy day for this group,” said Messi. “We knew Athletic would play as they did and we had to be patient with the ball and try to create space. We were all over them in the first half and in the second they dropped off.”
