The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has appointed former Indian allrounder Manoj Prabhakar as the head coach of the Nepal National Cricket team.
Following the resignation of Pubudu Dassayanke, CAN appointed a new head coach for the team. Prabhakar featured India in 39 test matches and 130 ODIs from India.
He has scored 1,858 runs including two centuries and 11 fifties and has taken 157 wickets in ODIs. Likewise, he has scored 1600 runs including 1 century and has taken 96 wickets in test matches.
Prabhakar holds experience in coaching the Afghanistan Cricket team. Moreover, he has coached the teams of Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy.
CAN’s Acting Secretary Prashant Bikram Malla confirmed that they have reached an agreement for the time period of one year with Prabhakar. “We currently reached an agreement for one year. However, we could not disclose his salary. But he will be pursing more amount than Pubudu did,” said Malla.
“We confirmed with many sources and got to know that he has good intervention in both bowling and batting. Also, the higher officials from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) recommended him. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also suggested that he can be impactful to Nepal.” Malla added.
Prabhakar was appointed as Afghanistan’s bowling coach at the end of 2015. He was featured on the Afghanistan team as a bowling coach in the 2016 T20 World Cup. In 1999, he was banned from playing by India on accuse of match-fixing.
