The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) will appoint a new coach for the Nepali National Cricket team prior to the Kenya tour. Nepal is scheduled to play three 50-over practice matches and five T-20i in the Kenya tour in August.

CAN has informed that they will appoint the head coach soon which got vacant after the resignation of Pubudu Dassanayake. Acting Secretary of CAN, Prashant Bikram Malla stated that a decision regarding the head coach will be taken within a week.

“The decision regarding head coach will be done within this week. Talks are in the final phase. We have decided to keep the names confidential. But a new coach will join the team on a tour to Kenya”, Malla said to HamroKhelukd.

Jagat Tamata is an alternative if a CAN fails to appoint a new head coach before the Kenya tour. But Malla assured that a new coach will be appointed before the tour.

Although CAN has not revealed the name of the possible head coaches for the Nepali Cricket team, one among Indian Monty Desai, Lalchand Rajput, and Chetan Sharma are expected to be appointed.

As per the CAN, the team will travel to Kenya on August 17-18. Sandeep Lamichhane will lead the team in T-20i. In the rest ODI matches, Vice-Captain Rohit Paudel will lead the team.

Lamichhane is heading towards West Indies to play Caribbean Premier League (CPL) starting from 31st August. Because of that, Nepal requested to move the tour a bit earlier. Lamichhane will play CPL for Jamaica Talawaz.
