Manang stages a remarkable comeback to share spoils with Jawalakhel

Kathmandu – Manang Marshyangdi Club staged a remarkable comeback to earn a point against league leaders Jawalakhel Youth Club in an enthralling encounter at the ongoing Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League.

Despite being down 2-0 till the 80th minute, Manang fought back valiantly to draw 2-2 in a thrilling match held at the Chyasal Stadium on Sunday.

The first goal of the match came in the 34th minute when Nkoto Synous Masoabi scored for Jawalakhel. Manang’s goalkeeper Deep Karki failed to clear Binod KC’s long pass from halfway, and the ball hit Masoabi, deflecting it into the post. With this goal, Masoabi became the joint top-scorer of the league with 13 goals alongside Khumaltar’s Messouke Olomou.

Hisub Thapaliya doubled Jawalakhel’s lead in the 76th minute with a well-tapped-in goal from Fode Fofana’s powerful cross.

However, Manang refused to go down without a fight and managed to reduce the deficit five minutes later when Bhison Gurung scored a fantastic goal to keep their hopes alive.

As the match headed into injury time, Sumit Shrestha scored a stunning goal from outside the box in the first minute of added time to snatch a point for Manang and end the match in a thrilling draw.

The result means that Jawalakhel maintains its position at the top of the table with 31 points, while Manang remains in seventh place with 22 points.
