Deepak earns historic Gold for Nepal

Kathmandu – Nepali athlete Deepak Adhikari created a history by winning the gold medal in the Senior Men’s 10KM event under the 16th Asian Cross Country Championship, held at Gokarna Forest Resort on Tuesday. This marks Nepal’s first gold medal in the senior category of this Asian-level championship.

The 13th South Asian Games bronze medalist and 9th National Games Gold Medalist Deepak, defeated Japan’s Daichi Kamino by just 5 milliseconds to claim the victory. He clocked 33 minutes, 52 seconds, and 1 millisecond to complete the distance, while Daichi took 33 minutes, 52 seconds, and 6 milliseconds to cross the finish line. The winner was determined through a photo finish.

A total of 26 runners participated in the event, with Nepal’s Mukesh Pal finishing third with a time of 34 minutes and 33.39 seconds.

Nepal also won gold in the Senior Men’s Team Event, with Deepak, Mukesh, and Dipak Suhang completing the distance in 1 hour, 43 minutes, and 19 seconds. Iran won silver, and India took home the bronze medal.
