Kathmandu – Nepal began their campaign in the CAVA Women’s Volleyball Challenge Cup with an impressive victory over Kyrgyzstan at the NSC Covered Hall on Monday.
In the inaugural match, the hosts dominated Kyrgyzstan, securing a straight-set victory of 3-0, thanks to stellar performances from Usha Bhandari, Niruta Thagunna, and debutant Sangam Mahato.
Nepal comfortably won the first set with a score of 25-11. They faced a tougher challenge in the second set but managed to come out on top with a score of 25-19. Determined to maintain their momentum, Nepal clinched the third set with a score of 25-11, sealing a convincing win.
With this triumph, Nepal, placed in Group A, earned 3 points. In the same group, India also secured 3 points by overpowering Bangladesh.
India displayed a dominant performance against Bangladesh, sweeping them aside in straight sets with Bangladesh scoring just 3, 9, and 6 points.
Meanwhile, in Group B, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan emerged victorious in their matches against Sri Lanka and Maldives respectively in a straight set, each earning 3 points.
Uzbekistan triumphed over Sri Lanka in an intense encounter, with scores of 27-25, 25-20, and 25-14. In the final match of the opening day, Kazakhstan outclassed the Maldives, securing a comfortable win with a score of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-6.
