Kathmandu – Nepali star forward Sabitra Bhandari aka Samba showcased her brilliance guiding Gokulam Kerala FC to a remarkable hat-trick of the Indian Women’s League (IWL) title.
Gokulam displayed their dominance by crushing Kickstart FC with a resounding 5-0 victory on Sunday, solidifying their position as the reigning champions for the third consecutive year. Samba played a pivotal role in the triumph, scoring one goal and providing two assists during the match.
The 5th minute saw an electrifying start as Samba opened Gokulam’s scoring, putting them ahead early in the game. The team’s momentum continued to surge as Sanidhya doubled their lead in the 22nd minute, leaving Kickstart FC trailing by two goals. Gokulam’s dominance was further evident when Indu extended their lead to an impressive 3-0 in the 35th minute.
After a commanding first half, Gokulam emerged from the break with an unyielding determination to amplify their lead. It was Samba once again who shone bright, providing assists for both goals scored by Sanidhya in the 53rd minute, taking Gokulam’s lead to an insurmountable four-nil. Roja sealed the team’s victory with a goal in the 81st minute, ensuring Gokulam Kerala FC’s triumphant title defense.
Samba’s exceptional performance throughout the season contributed significantly to Gokulam’s journey to the title. With an impressive tally of 29 goals, she claimed the coveted Highest Goal Scorer award, cementing her status as one of the league’s most prolific scorers.
