Raducanu leads UK Laureus Awards nominees

Agency US Open champion Emma Raducanu is one of six British sports stars nominated for the 2022 Laureus World Sports Awards. Diver Tom Daley and BMX racer Bethany Shriever, who both won gold at last year's Tokyo Olympics, are also nominated along with 13-year-old Sky Brown, who won skateboarding bronze, BBC reported. According to the BBC, Britain's most successful Paralympian Sarah Storey is also recognised. Cyclist Mark Cavendish completes the UK nominees. Mauritius arrives in Nepal for International Friendly

By A Staff Reporter KATHMANDU: The Mauritius national football team has arrived in Kathmandu on Monday for two friendly matches against the Nepali national football team. Nepal and Mauritius are playing two friendly matches at Dasharath Stadium on January 29 (Saturday) and February 1 (Tuesday). Mauritius lags behind Nepal in FIFA rankings. Nepal is ranked 169th and Mauritius 172nd. For the first time, Nepal is going to play an international fixture with an African team. Coach Abdullah Almutairi had chosen 34 players in the preliminary selection for the friendly match. The team is training regularly at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato. The 24th Men's and 9th Women's National Weightlifting Tournament is all set to be kick off on January 11, 2022. The three-day tournament will see participation of 23 teams including Nepalese Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force and 20 districts, said president of Nepal Weightlifting Association, Ram Krishna Shrestha during a press conference on Thursday. By a Staff Reporter Kathmandu - Nepal’s first athlete to win an international medal has been admitted to the hospital since last week. Jeet Bahadur KC, who had won Nepal’s first medal in 1973, was injured while cleaning a starter pistol used during a recent athletics tournament. The 73-year-old former athlete sustained injuries on his left hand while  cleaning the pistol three days after officiating the Run for Protein  Half Marathon organized by Nepal Veterinary Association at the Dasharath Stadium on last Saturday. Supreme Court issues interim order to reinstate Ramesh Silwal as NSC Member Secretary

Prakash Timalsina Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to reinstate the then Member Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC) Ramesh Silwal, who was sacked by the Deuba government almost two months ago. The Council of Ministers had sacked Silwal on October 18 stating that his clarification was not satisfactory. Silwal had moved the court against the government’s decision to sack him. A single bench of Justice Hari Phuyal on Wednesday issued an order to reinstate Silwal to his former post.
