RW begins New Year with Winter Slam

Kathmandu – Nepal Ring Wrestling Association is all set to organize the First RW Winter Slam National Wrestling Championship in Chunikhel, Kathmandu on Saturday on the New Year Day.

General Secretary of the association Subarna Shrestha informed that the preparations for the championship has been completed. According to Shrestha, the championship will be held at Chunikhel Ground in Budhanilkantha Municipality on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Competition will be held in five different categories. Cash prize has been announced for all five categories.

The heavyweight champion of the tournament will bag a purse of Rs 75,000 while hardcore champion will get Rs 65,000, followed by middle weight champion (Rs 50,000), tag-team champions (Rs 40,000) and light weight champion (Rs 35,000).

The tournament is being organized with special support from Ward 13 of Budhanilkantha Municipality. Ward chairman Shree Krishna Shrestha had said in an earlier press conference that the championship holds a great significance in promoting the cultural and historical features of Chunikhel.

This tournament will be broadcasted live on the website of Hamro Khelkud as well as Facebook page of Nepal Ring Wrestling Association.

According to the general secretary of Nepal Ring Wrestling Association Subarna Shrestha, the tournament will feature Nuwakote Tiger, Chattan, David, Shine, Tuppi Gang, Ex Hero, Lady Angel, Tannu, King Robot, CJ, ASC, John, Baka, UBL among other wrestlers.

Referees Pradeep Pandey, Bikash Khadka and Sisham Maini will be officiating the matches. The estimated cost of the tournament is around Rs 1.5 million, according to the organisers.

General Secretary Shrestha informed that Nepal Ring Wrestling Association has been organizing national and international –level tournaments with the objective of developing a culture of ring wrestling as well as international-standard players.
