Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal National Football Team goalkeeper, Bishal Shrestha, has inked a deal to become the marquee player of FC Chitwan in the upcoming second edition of the Nepal Super League (NSL). This was formally announced as FC Chitwan, led by president Sachin Dhakal, and Bishal Shrestha signed the agreement, as stated in an official press release from the club.
In the inaugural edition of NSL, Bishal represented Butwal Lumbini FC. Chitwan had previously signed Bharat Khawas as their marquee player in the first edition. Despite being one of the most accomplished domestic goalkeepers, Bishal Shrestha has seen limited opportunities with the national team.
After being in the national team dynamics for over a decade, Bishal finally made his debut in 2021 during a friendly against India. His debut for the national team was delayed due to the presence of Kiran Chemjong as the first-choice goalkeeper. Currently, Bishal practices his trade for Machhindra FC in the Martyr’s Memorial A Division League.
In a remarkable season in 2078, when Machhindra clinched the A Division title, Bishal conceded a mere two goals throughout the campaign. This triumph marked his fourth A Division title win, having previously secured two titles with Manang Marshyangdi Club before becoming the key figure behind Machhindra’s double league titles.
The first edition for Chitwan went very badly, culminating in a winless campaign. Chitwan managed to secure only two points in six matches, which included a couple of draws.
In addition to FC Chitwan, Dhangadhi and Butwal have also unveiled their marquee players—Ashish Chaudhary and Arik Bista, respectively.
This edition will feature nine teams, as Biratnagar FC have opted out. Moreover, three teams will be making their debut in NSL set to kick off on November 24th.
