Kathmandu – The third event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022-23, Surya Nepal NPGA Match play will commence on Tuesday at Royal Nepal Golf Club.
The top 16 professionals from the order of merit of season 2019-20 are qualified for the match play event, going to be held from January 24 to 26, 2023. All match-play events will be over 18 holes except the final, which will be played over 36 holes.
The eight matches of the first round will be played on the opening day. Likewise, four quarter-finals and semi-finals will take place on the 25th of January. Moreover, the final match will be played on 26th January. The third-place decider match will also be played on the closing day.
2021-22 full season’s top-ranked player Sukra Bahadur Rai will play against 20th-ranked Tanka Bahadur Karki. Fourth-ranked Niraj Tamang will be playing the PGTI qualifying school. Similarly, 14th-ranked Rajendra Thapa Magar, 16th-ranked Purna Sharma, and 18th-ranked Tirtha Paudel are not competing in the tournament as they are out of the country.
Second-ranked Bhuwan Nagarkoti will see 19th-ranked Sanjok Moktan. Third-ranked Jayaram Shrestha is up against 17th-ranked Krishna Man Shrestha, and Fifth-ranked Rabi Khadka will face 15th-ranked Pradip Kumar Lama.
Sixth-ranked Sanjay Lama will face 13th-ranked Ramesh Adhikari. Seventh-ranked Dinesh Prajapati will play against 12th-ranked Surya Prasad Sharma. Eighth-ranked Dhana Bahadur Thapa will have his first match against 11th-ranked Bal Bhadra Rai. Ninth-ranked Rame Magar will play against 10th-ranked Bhuwan Kumar Rokka
The winner of the tournament will receive a cheque of Rs 60,000 Runner up will purse Rs 42,000. The second runner-up will earn Rs 32000 and the fourth place will get Rs. 24,000.
Furthermore, four quarter-finalists will get Rs 11,000/- each, and 8 first-round players will also get 6,000/- each. The total winning prize for the event is Rs 250,000/-.
