Kathmandu – All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Karma Chiring Sherpa and Senior Vice President Pankaj BIkram Nembang are all set to compete for the post of ANFA president during the upcoming election. The two were elected from the same panel during the last election.

Besides them, the entire 17-member executive committee of ANFA was elected from the same panel. Four years down the lane, Sherpa and Nembang have decided to compete from different panels.

The ANFA election is to be held on June 20. The election committee of the football governing body has fixed the deadline of May 20 to 26 for the nominations.

Sherpa informed that he will file his candidacy on Friday.

“I have decided to fight for the post once again to give continuity to the works that I initiated and also for the institutional development and to make ANFA financially able,” said Sherpa, adding, “We have initiated many new works and it is essential to give continuity to them.”

Sherpa and Nembang stood united against former ANFA president Ganesh Thapa and managed to secure the top two posts in ANFA executive committee following the election four years ago. However, the relations between the two began to sour one year after the election. Due to this, ANFA was divided into two groups. The two leaders who had fought together during the last election are now certain to vie from two different panels.

Sherpa said that although his term was successful, he could not fulfill all the works.

“We couldn’t work as per the expectations for two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Sherpa.

Nembang has also decided to file his candidacy on Friday. He said that he will officially file his candidacy with an agenda.
