Nepal National Cricket team captain Sandeep Lamichhane has left a huge mark in world cricket in a short period of time. When it comes to naming star players in associate cricket, Lamichhane’s name comes to the forefront. Not only in the senior national team, Lamichhane has left his mark even in international cricket through franchise cricket leagues.
Lamichhane had played the world famous franchise league like Indian Premier League (IPL) Big Bash League and so on. Sandeep has numerous records for the national team along with world records in international cricket. Below are the six records made by Sandeep Lamichhane:
6. Debut in T20I from Combined team
Sandeep Lamichhane is the first cricketer to make his T20I debut from the combined team. Lamichhane made his T0I debut against the West Indies representing the ICC World XI on 31 May 2018. He became the first cricketer to make his T20I debut from the combined team. He did not make his T20I debut from Nepal National Cricket team. At that time, Nepal’s T20I recognition was taken down by ICC.
5. Best strike rate in T20I
In T20I cricket, Lamichhane is the topmost bowler with best bowling strike rate. He has bowled at a strike rate of 12 in 39 matches. South Africa’s fast bowler Lungi Ngidi, India’s Kuldeep Yadav and Qatar’s Iqbal Hasan are behind Lamichhane with a strike rate of 12.5 each.
4. Best average in T20I
Lamichhane is the bowler with the lowest bowling average in World T20I cricket. His average is 12.76. Spinner Rashid Khan of Afghanistan is behind Lamichhane with an average of 13 in T20I Cricket.
3. Best strike rate in ODI
Lamichhane is a bowler with the best strike rate in ODI cricket as well. Sandeep has taken 69 wickets in 30 ODI matches at a strike rate of 23.2.
Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris has the second best strike rate of 23.4 with 44 wickets taken in 21 matches. Oman’s Bilal Khan stands in third place. He has taken 76 wickets in 36 matches at a strike rate of 24.3.
2. Excellent average in ODI
Lamichhane is a bowler who bowls with the best average in ODI. He has taken wickets at an average of 15.57. Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan follows Lamichhane with an average of 18.65 with 158 wickets taken in 83 matches.
1. Bowler to take consecutive four or more wickets in ODI series
Lamichhane holds the joint world record of taking four or more wickets in three ODI matches consecutively. He set this record last September 2021 in Oman. He also took 6 wickets against the USA in February 2020.
He set this record by taking 4 wickets in the first match and 6 wickets in the second match against Papua New Guinea in September 2021 at the Al Ameret Ground in Oman. 11 players including Sandeep have jointly set this record.
Along with Sandeep, Pakistan’s Waqar Younis, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shahid Afridi, Abdul Razak, India’s Narendra Hirwani, Mohammad Shami, New Zealand’s Matt Henry, Canada’s Khurram Chohan, Australia’s Shane Warne and West Indies Vasbert Drakes took more than four wickets in three times in a row in ODI.
