Kathmandu – Captain of Nepal’s national cricket team Sandeep Lamichhane has joined Dambulla Giants for the Sri Lankan Premier League for a fee of Rs 5 million.
The Sri Lankan club has signed Lamichhane for a fee of US$ 40,000 (Rs 5 million approx.).
Lamichhane will play alongside Australia’s D’Arcy Short, Sri Lanka Captain Dasun Sanaka and Bhanuka Rajapakshe who have also been signed by the club.
There were 353 players in the auction including 180 foreign players. There are five franchise teams in the SPL, which will be held from July 31 to August 21 later this year.
Lamichhane has been playing for the Big Bash League of Australia of late.
The Nepali national cricket team is currently in Canada for practice matches. After playing two practice matches in Canada, the team will travel to Scotland to play the ICC World Cup League-2 matches against Scotland and Namibia. The triangular series will end on July 17.
Lamichhane will likely play the full season of SPL as Nepal does not have any international matches during that period.
