By a Staff Reporter

Kathmandu – Star striker Sabitra Bhandari rescued Nepal from defeat against Bangladesh in an international friendly match held in Dhaka.

The match seemed to be heading towards a 1-0 victory for the hosts until the second minute of stoppage time when Sabitra scored a crucial goal, resulting in a 1-1 tie that left both teams level. The Bir Sherestha Shaheed Shipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium witnessed an intense battle between the two sides.

Bangladesh took the lead in the 65th minute when skipper Sabina Khatun capitalized on defensive lapses by the Nepalese team, putting her side in front. It appeared that the hosts would secure the win with their advantage intact.

However, in a stunning turn of events, Sabitra’s goal in the 90+2nd minute nullified Bangladesh’s lead, ultimately concluding the match in a draw. Sabitra’s timely strike saved Nepal from defeat and ensured that the match ended with honors even. This is Sabitra’s 44th international goal featuring in 44 outings.

Nepal will next face Bangladesh once again in a second friendly match on Sunday before returning home to prepare for the upcoming 19th Asian Games. The team will utilize this experience to fine-tune their strategies and strengthen their performance for the forthcoming tournament.
