Kathmandu – Pokhara Thunders have announced Machhindra Football Club’s captain as their marquee player for the upcoming Nepal Super League. Pokhara Thunders signed an agreement in this regard with Shrestha amid a function on Thursday.
Shrestha, who was sold for the maximum of Rs 200,000 during last season’s auction, couldn’t feature in the league due to an injury layoff. However, Pokhara Thunders had given him management responsibilities. This year, he was announced as the marquee player.
All ten teams competing in the event scheduled for next month have been announcing their marquee players.
Kathmandu RayZRs also announced their marquee player and coach on Thursday. The team has signed Bikesh Kuthu as their marquee player. Likewise, Biratnagar City FC have signed Ranjit Dhimal as their marquee player.
Similarly, Kathmandu have announced Bal Gopal Maharjan as their chief coach while Biratnagar have announced Bishnu Gurung as chief coach. Gurung had made his debut as Sankata’s coach in the A Division league this season. Sankata finished seventh in the league.
Meanwhile, Dhangadhi FC have given continuity to Bishal Rai as their marquee player.
With the addition of three new teams, a total of ten teams will be competing in the second edition of the league to be organized by Nepal Sports and Events Management (NESM) from April 9.
The three new teams include Jhapa Xi, Sporting Ilam Mechi and Birgunj United FC. The teams that featured in the first edition include Kathmandu RayZRs, Dhangadhi FC, Lalitpur FC, Chitwan City FC, Butwal, Lumbini, Pokhara Thunders and Biratnagar City FC.
The organisers said that they will hold players auction on Friday. The All Nepal Football Association has divided 242 players in three categories for the auction.
The first leg of the NSL will be held in Pokhara from April 9 to May 21. The second leg will be held in Kathmandu.
