Kathmandu – Former Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team skipper Paras Khadka has been elected as the president of the Bagmati Province Cricket Association. Paras defeated another candidate Umesh Piya, 23-14, to win the elections by nine votes.
Khadka’s entire panel has won the elections. Prem Bahadur Chhetri defeated Rupak Ranjit 23-14 to be elected as the vice president. Prasanna Shakya will serve as the treasurer. Shakya defeated Prajwol Sapkota 23-14 as well. Sanjay Basnet will serve as the treasurer by defeating Bijay Bohora with the same margin.
Ajay Bir Pandey, Anil Adhikari, Sanjog Pokhrel, Sujan Maharjan, Nira Rajouapdhyay, Dheeraj Shrestha, Shekhar Shrestha, Basanta Raj Satyal and Anup Man Shrestha have been elected as the committee members.
Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur and Makwanpur districts of Bagmati Province, the recognized member districts, had announced their support for Paras a week ago. Chitwan and Nuwakot were in the Khadka’s opposition.
Bagmati Province elections had a total of 37 votes. Four representatives from each district cast their votes. 13 members of the previous Bagmati Province Working Committee also voted in the elections.
With this, the elections in 45 member district associations as well as the seven provinces, have concluded. Sarbajit Pandey, Sunil Kumar Mahaseth, Paras Khadka, Sanjay Kanta Sigdel, Sanjay Gurung, Padam Khadka and Basudev Joshi have been elected as the presidents of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali and Far-West Province Cricket Associations respectively.
Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) central elections are being held in the first week of Ashoj. A total of 86 votes will be cast in the elections, with 44 votes required for the presidency.
With the win in Bagmati, Paras Khadka is expected to run for an executive position in the CAN central elections as well.
