Kathmandu – Nepal Police Club (NPC) and Tip Top Help Nepal took the trophy of the 7th NVA Club Volleyball Championship home.
On the women’s side, Nepal Police Club defeated Hongwanji New Diamond Sports Club by 3-2 in a close contest battle to win the title for the first time in 10 years. Likewise, on the men’s side, Help Nepal thrashed domestic giants Tribhuvan Army Club in a straight set of 3-0 at NSC Covered Hall on Sunday.
Women’s Final
New Diamond, who lost to NPC in their group stage match, managed to win the first set by 25-22. NPC wrapped up the second set by 25-17 to dead heat the game. New Diamond secures thriller fourth set by 27-25.
New Diamond failed to protect its lead in the final set as NPC sidelined them by 15-11 to lift the title of the 7th NVA Club Volleyball Women’s Championship for the second time.
NPC were crowned champions of the NVA Club Volleyball Championship earlier in 2013. APF finished the championship first in the second edition. New Diamond became victorious in the third. APF won consecutively twice after. The Champions of the 6th edition, New Diamond failed to defend the title.
Men’s Final
Defending Champions Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) went down emphatically to Help Nepal in a straight set of 3-0. TAC scored 22, 24, and 23 past the champions. Although TAC took the lead in the competitive second set, Help Nepal came back and won 26-24.
Help Nepal had faced TAC in the finals of the NVA Club Championship, NVA League, and Tiger Cup previously where Help Nepal lost them all.
While both the champions team pursed NRs. 4 Lakhs each, the runners-up received NRs. 2 Lakhs.
APF managed to finish the championship third in both men’s and women’s categories and bagged NRs. 1 lakh each.
Individual Awards
Usha Bhandari of NPC and Mubashar Raza of Help Nepal were named the Most Valuable Player of The Tournament. Both were rewarded with a cash prize of NRs. 25000 along with a trophy.
