New Diamond, Nepal Police enter semis as group winners

Kathmandu – Hongwanji New Diamond Sports Club and Nepal Police Club have entered the semifinals of the First Damak Cup National Women’s Volleyball Championship on Sunday as group winners. New Diamond finished first in Group B while Nepal Police topped Group A to secure their places in the last four.

New Diamond defeated the hosts Damak Volleyball Club straight sets of 3-0 during the group stage match held on Sunday. The one-sided game ended 25-8, 25-9 and 25-12.

With the victory, New Diamond secured 5 points from two matches. Tribhuvan Army Club finished runners-up of Group B with 4 points from two matches. Damak finished on the bottom with two losses from two matches.

In another match, Nepal Police Club defeated Province 1 in straight sets of 3-0. Police hammered Province 1 by a scoreline of 25-4, 25-8 and 25-15 to secure their place in the semifinals. Police finished the group stage matches with 6 points from two matches while Nepal APF club finished second with 3 points from two matches. Province 1 finished last among the three groups without any points.

Group A winners Police will face Group B runners-up Army in Monday’s semifinal. Likewise, Group B champions New Diamond will take on Group A runners-up APF in another semifinal.

A total of six teams are competing in the event organized by Damak Volleyball Association on the occasion of the  112th International Women’s Day. Winners of the championship will bag a purse of Rs 200,000 while the runners-up will walk away with Rs 100,000.
