New Diamond defeat APF to set title clash against Army

Kathmandu – Hongwanji New Diamond Sports Club stormed into the final of the First Damak Cup National Women’s Volleyball Championship on Monday defeating Armed Police Force (APF) Sports Club in straight sets in the semifinal match.

The match was a thrilling affair as New Diamond won the first set 30-28. APF were able to deny match point to New Diamond on four occasions but the tide turned in favour of New Diamond after its player Prativa Mali appeared in the front court. New Diamond won the second set 25-17 while the third set was also a close contest which New Diamond won 26-24.

Earlier, Group B runners-up Army defeated Group A winners Police 3-2 in a five-set thriller. Army had won the first two sets but police managed to win the next two sets to push the match to five sets. Army managed to win the final set to fix the title clash against New Diamond.

A total of six teams were registered for the event organized by Damak Volleyball Association on the occasion of the  112th International Women’s Day. Winners of the championship will bag a purse of Rs 200,000 while the runners-up will walk away with Rs 100,000.
