Nery Thapa scores hat-trick to secure a sensational win for Lumbini

Kathmandu – Former captain of the national women’s cricket team of Nepal Nery Thapa scored a hat-trick to help Lumbini Province defeat Lalitpur Mayors XI in their Lalitpur Mayor’s Women’s Championship T20 Championship on Wednesday.  Lumbini defeated Lalitpur XI by two runs.

Chasing a target of 95 runs for victory, Lalitpur XI managed to score 92 runs in 20 overs losing 9 wickets. Lalitpur were in need of 7 runs from the last six balls. Nery Thapa gave away one run to Asmina Karmacharya in the first ball of the last over. In her second ball, Khusi Dangol was out for LBW. She then bowled out Shila Chhetri for a duck in the third ball. Thapa then bowled out Elisa Yadav for a duck in the next ball to complete the hat-trick. Anjali Bishwakarma  then added one run in the fifth ball and Asmina managed two runs off the last ball. Asmina Karmacharya was not out on 20 runs off 21 balls that included two boundaries. Sana Prabin scored 12 runs but none other batswoman performed well with the bat.

Nery Thapa took 4 wickets in the match while another spinner Kriti Marasini bagged 3 and Susmita Bhusal got 2 wickets.

Earlier, electing to bat first at the TU Cricket Ground, Lumbini scored 94 runs in 20 overs losing 4 wickets. Lumbini’s cacptain Saraswati Gharti Magar topscored 31 runs off 47 balls.

This is the second consecutive defeat of Lalitpur, who were earlier defeated by Sudur Paschim in their first match. Lalitpur will next face APF on Friday.
