Kathmandu – Nepal T20 League, the first-ever franchise league going to be organized by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) gets postponed for the 3rd time, confirms CAN’s president Chatur Bahadur Chand.
“The Nepal T20 League, scheduled to kick off on December 23, 2022, will not go according to the plan as the foreign players are yet to receive their work permit,” said the president of CAN, Chatur Bahadur Chand.
“If the tournament doesn’t start within a few days, we will terminate the contract with seven3sports, and the tournament for this season may get halted,” Chand added.
As per the initial announcement made by CAN, NepalT20 shall have commenced by September 24. Following the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, CAN proposed a new date for Nepal T20 i.e. December 11th to December 31st, 2022, which got postponed again.
Kathmandu Gurkhas, the franchise owned by Kantipur Group of Media withdrew their team from the tournament at the dying hour which resulted in the Nepal T20 League getting postponed for the second time. CAN then scooped in Kathmandu Knights as a new franchise team representing the capital and reviled the new fixtures of the tournament.
Six franchise teams Kathmandu Knights, Pokhara Avengers, Biratnagar Super Kings, Janakpur Royals, Lumbini All Stars, and Far-Western United are set to participate in the maiden edition of NepalT20 League.
The participating teams have completed their preparation for the tournament. However, the commencement of the tournament is still on the fence.
Indian company Seven Three Sports is a strategic and commercial partner of the Nepal T20 League. CAN had sold the rights of Nepal T20 to Seven Three Sports for the period of 8 years for 33 crores.
