Nepal struggled to defeat Bhutan

The Nepal U17 Football team defeated Bhutan by 2-1 to register their first win in an ongoing SAFF U17 Championship in Sri Lanka.

Unesh Budhathoki scored in the 13th minute to give Nepal an early lead. Semanta Thapa doubled the lead in the 57th minute of the match. Jetsune Dorji scored a consolation for Bhutan in the 68th minute. 

With the win, Nepal marched on to the semi-finals of the Championship. Bhutan faced a 3-0 defeat against India in its first outing which helped Nepal to qualify for the semis with one game in hand. Bhutan found their way out of the championship following the defeat against Nepal. 

Nepal stands second in Group ‘B’ with 3 points. India is at the top of the table. Nepal will face India on September 9.

Two teams from both groups will qualify for the semifinals. The final clash is scheduled for 14th September.
