Kathmandu – Skipper Sabina Khatun strikes twice as Bangladesh defeats Maldives 3-0 to find a winning start to the sixth SAFF Women’s Championship.
Masura Prabin added apiece to the goal tally. Khatun opened an account for Bangladesh in the 31st minute of the match. Maldivian skipper and goalkeeper Aminath Lija failed to judge a 35-yard-long ranger stroke by Kathun.
Prabin doubled Bangladesh’s lead in the 34th minute of the match. She converted into an empty net.
Skipper Khatun scored her second and the team’s third goal in the 40th minute of the match. Maldivian goalkeeper Lija however stopped the first attempt but Khatun easily netted the ball in a rebound.
Two-goal scorer Sabina Khatun was adjudged the Player of The Match. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semifinals. The final is scheduled for 19th September.
