Kathmandu (HamroKhelkud) – Nepal have been grouped alongside world cricket heavyweights South Africa and Sri Lanka in Group D of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Nepal make up the group alongside these two heavyweights, as well as Bangladesh and the Netherlands, according to the groups and schedule released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday.
Nepal will take on the Netherlands in their first match on June 4, followed by a week-long gap before taking on Sri Lanka on June 11. Both these matches will be held in the USA. The rest of the two group matches against South Africa and Bangladesh on June 14 and 16, respectively, will be held in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines of the West Indies.
Arch rivals India and Pakistan, alongside Ireland, Canada and the USA, are in Group A, while England, Australia, Namibia, Scotland and Oman make up Group B. New Zealand, West Indies, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea are in Group C.
Nepal will play the T20 World Cup after a ten-year hiatus. Nepal contested the T20 World Cup in 2014 under Paras Khadka’s captaincy in Bangladesh, where Nepal exited the tournament in the preliminary round.
